Planting Strawberries at
Logan Farm
Sanford, NC
Bill and Daniel Logan

The Logan family raises a wide variety of horticultural crops
including vegetables, strawberries, and nursery and greenhouse
crops. They also raise poultry, hay, straw, and field corn. The
strawberries that their customers enjoy in the spring are planted
in early October. For one day a year the Logans bring in outside
workers to get the plants in the ground. It takes the crew most
of the day to get all the beds planted.

The fresh-dug strawberry plants are shipped from Canada. This
bundle shows the abundant root and shoot growth.

This farmworker moves quickly down the beds, planting a double
row of strawberry plants. It's tough work being bent over all
day!

of the beds. The overhead irrigation will help protect the plants
from freezes. The bee hive in the background will provide pollinators
when the plants are blooming next spring.
