Here is the official Chatham County State of Emergency proclamation.
Due to the uncertain but increasing threat that Hurricane Florence poses to Central North Carolina and Chatham County, Chairperson Hales has declared a State of Emergency effective immediately through Sunday, September 30, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. The declaration activates the county’s Emergency Operations Plan, authorizes the County Manager to take actions to protect the public, and encourages residents to stay off the roadways during and immediately after the storm if reasonably possible, and to limit travel so as not to interfere with efforts of emergency responders and repair crews.
At this time the declaration does not impose any prohibitions (curfews, evacuations, the operation of businesses/offices, other activities or conditions the control of which may be reasonably necessary). As events unfold later this week, we will work with the Towns’ and Counties’ leadership to modify the declaration if required.
