NC 4-H Electric Congress has always been a lot of fun and a great educational experience for the youth that have attended each year. The trip to 4-H Electric Congress is a reward for all the work that 4-H electric project youth participants have done throughout the year. Well, we will continue with the 73rd NC 4-H Electric Congress a little differently this year but it will happen, virtually, July 7-8. The 73rd NC 4-H Electric Congress is sponsored by the electric cooperatives across North Carolina, Duke Energy and Dominion Energy.

Usually, youth must have completed the electric project in order to attend but since we are holding it virtually any 4-H’er interested in the 4-H electricity project in North Carolina can attend as long as they are 11-18 years old and a 4-H member (It’s easy to join)

As usual, there will be a Career Fair, Awards Banquet, and an educational component. The one unique opportunity with a virtual event is we can include information related to energy technologies and the allied industries located all across the state. The Career Fair will include information presented by recent 4-H electric program alumni that currently are working with Duke Energy. Also, the unique opportunity to learn what scientists with Duke and Dominion are doing to help solve problems related to COVID-19 specific issues, not just providing electrical power. So many companies are finding ways to help with the pandemic that they never imagined would be the case three months ago.

There will be a live awards banquet on Tuesday evening following the same format as in the past to recognize the individuals and groups that have excelled in the electric program based on their electric portfolio and electric activities over the past year.

Rachel Wilson from Cabarrus County 4-H is recognized for her Electric Project at the 2019 4-H Electric Congress.

There will also be an educational component that will include information related to solar and wind power, power generation, emerging technologies and drone technology utilized in the energy industry.

If you are interested in attending, contact Tracy_LeCompte@ncsu.edu for Cabarrus County or find your 4-H agent here.
