In January, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Randolph County Center will host Informational Sessions for the Randolph Gardener Course and the Extension Master Gardener℠ program of Randolph County. One session must be attended in order to participate in either of the two programs. Sessions will be held January 14, 9–11 a.m., January 20, 6:30–8:30 p.m., and January 28, 2021, 9–11 a.m. Please register for the most convenient session.
The Randolph Gardener Course will be a 6-week course open to the public that covers the basics of gardening. Topics covered will include: soils, pest management, choosing the right plants for your landscape, and more. Four of five classes must be attended to receive a Randolph Gardener certificate. All sessions of this course must be completed before entering the Extension Master Gardener program of Randolph County. This course will be held during the winter of 2021.
The Extension Master Gardener program of Randolph County will be a more in-depth 8-week course to become a trained horticulture volunteer for N.C. Cooperative Extension of Randolph County. Topics covered will include: botany, houseplants, insects, weeds, diseases, and wildlife management, lawns, landscape maintenance, pesticide use and safety, plant propagation, protection of water quality, soils/fertilizer management, vegetables, fruit and nut production, and more. Participants must attend all 8 classes and have availability to complete 40 hours of volunteer service in the community focused on horticulture education within a year of their training. This course will take place during the fall of 2021.
