2022 NC State 4-H Horse Show Sportsmanship Award Winners

Each year during the State 4-H Horse Show,  nominations for the junior and senior sportsmanship awards are open. After nominations close, members of the advisory committee review the nominations and determine the recipients based on the statements and situations presented in which young people exemplify the 4-H characteristics of a helpful, kind, leader. Awards were presented during the Saturday evening program, just prior to the Costume classes (hence both award winners were dressed in Costume!)

Junior Sportsmanship Award Winner- Evan Hanna, Orange County High Flyers 4-H Club

This year’s junior winner showed continuous effort for their club, despite being a rookie. They showed up early each day of the state show, despite only showing on one day. They always put out their best effort in being there for their teammates and in helping and contributing to their coaches. Their kind spirit and hardworking mentality have been extremely beneficial to their club throughout their entire time as a member.

Senior Sportsmanship Award Winner- Rori Michaud, Cabarrus County Kickin’ Tails 4-H Club

This year’s senior winner faced a number of challenges during the show season, beginning with a potentially career-ending injury to her own horse. She picked up the ride on a green broke pony with behavioral issues so that she could still show. Without complaining, she has brought the pony along and has been a cheerleader for the rest of her team, and supported the other riders even through disappointment and difficulties. She has been a great sport this season and has really exemplified the 4-H motto of making the best better.
