Carlie Roseman, dietetic intern, and Gaston Co. staff discuss diabetes resources

When it comes to diabetes, there is a lot of misinformation about managing it. The good news is that N.C. Cooperative Extension  – Gaston County Center can help. Through our chronic disease workshops, individuals living with diabetes, at risk for diabetes, and even those who are caregivers for someone with diabetes, can find resources to improve their health. Extension offers many programs to help prevent or better manage diabetes, including diabetes self-management, nutrition myths of diabetes, physical activity, and the Mediterranean diet.

Family & Consumer Science Agent, Linda J. Minges conducts the diabetes self-management workshop, Living Healthy with Diabetes, at no cost to county residents. This 6-week course is sponsored by Centralina Area Agency on Aging and is designed for anyone with diabetes, pre-diabetes, or at risk for diabetes. Offered several times throughout the year, this workshop connects individuals with tools and the opportunity to connect with others who are also dealing with diabetes.

Upcoming workshop:  Living Healthy with Diabetes

The next session is scheduled for Wednesdays, November 9 – December 21 (9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.) at the Lucile Tatum Center, Gastonia. No cost to participants  – register by October 28th by contacting:  linda_minges@ncsu.edu or call 704.922.2127
