Cover crops are generally crops that are grown before or after the vegetable crop and not harvested as produce. Instead, they are terminated by cutting or other methods and then left to decompose in the garden. Some of the many ways they can benefit your garden include:
In this workshop, led by the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Chatham County, participants will learn about the different grasses, legumes, brassicas and other plants that can be used as cover crops. We will explore some great online resources for identifying cover crops best suited for your particular needs. Laptops will be provided for this activity, or feel free to bring your own. The workshop will also include a cover crop planting demonstration in the Extension Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at the NCCE Chatham County Center . You will leave ready to plant cover crops, your garden’s new best friend!
