This class is designed for beginner to intermediate gardeners and will explore the “How, Why, and Where” of starting and growing your own herb garden. Whether you're looking to add fresh flavor to your meals, explore natural remedies, or simply enjoy the beauty and fragrance of herbs, this session will provide you with the foundational knowledge and confidence to get started. We’ll cover how to choose the right herbs, why they thrive in different conditions, and where best to plant them—in the garden or in containers.

• Do you love to cook, but don’t know how to grow or harvest your favorite herbs
• What are the benefits of an herb garden?
• How do I prepare a site for my garden?
• How often should I fertilize my herbs?
• What should I be doing in my herb garden this month?
• Is this herb an annual or a perennial?
• Is this herb invasive?
• What pests might I anticipate? … friend or foe
• How do I preserve my herbs at the end of the growing season?

Join the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Chatham County in their Demonstration Garden at the Chatham County Agricultural & Conference Center for a walk through the garden to get hands-on practice identifying, pruning, and harvesting in our herb garden. Learn about the many different types of herbs we are growing and what it takes to make them thrive. Come, learn and get your garden questions answered!Dress for a morning in the garden - this class is entirely outdoors. We recommend a hat, sun protection, and water.  In the event of rain, the session will be rescheduled.
