For the past 76 years 4Hers have enjoyed participating in the 4H NC Electric Congress, an annual educational event designed to recognize excellence in the Electric Program throughout the
state. This year more than 75 youth participated in the program for “free” thanks to Dominion Energy and Duke Energy. Electric Congress travels from region to region of the state, thus allowing for a variety of programming opportunities for everyone. 4-H members participated in educational workshops, met Power Company Representatives, learned about careers in the energy industry, and interacted with other electric winners.
Youth and adults visited the Brunswick Energy and Education Center located in Southport NC. The center features exhibits on nuclear science, electricity, carbon-free energy and the operation of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant. 4H’er saw first-hand how a nuclear power plant operates, nuclear fuel usage, how robotics (drones and robots) are used in assisting in a variety of powerplant applications, and how the plant contributes locally to its community.
