Collapse ▲Bridging Generations through Stories:
The purpose of this program is to bring together 4-H youth and our more seasoned individuals in an intergenerational exchange of stories and experiences. The program aims to foster meaningful connections between these two groups while preserving and celebrating the rich tapestry of life experiences within the community.
Throughout the program, participants will engage in structured interviews, where 4-H teens will have the opportunity to interview elderly individuals, and vice versa. These interviews will provide a platform for sharing personal stories, memories, and wisdom accumulated over the years. Participants will record these stories, capturing the essence of each individual’s unique experiences.
In addition to the interviews, participants will collaborate on a cumulative art project that reflects the themes and narratives uncovered through the storytelling process. This art project will serve as a visual representation of the shared experiences and connections forged between the generations.
Through this program, participants will not only gain a deeper appreciation for the diverse experiences within their community but also develop empathy, understanding, and respect for individuals of different ages. By bridging generations through storytelling and art, this program aims to create a lasting legacy of unity, compassion, and intergenerational solidarity within the community.
This program will be offered in partnership with the Siler City Center for Active Living.
Youth Participants:
Youth participants must be actively enrolled in 4-HOnline and be 15 years of age or older. Youth should have an interest in videography, service, and community engagement. By participating in this program, youth will be able to have opportunities to learn new skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for the value different members of the community provide.
For those who are students with Chatham County Schools, Chatham 4-H will gladly provide their school with documentation to help satisfy any required service learning/internship needs they may have.
Seasoned Participants:
Seasoned adult individuals wishing to participate in this program should reach out to Kathryn Walters at the Siler City Center for Active Living.
