Dirt Therapy: Afternoon Scout & Divide
Hosted by the NC Cooperative Extension Horticulture Program and the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Lee County
When: Friday, February 27, 2026
Time: 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: Pollinator Haven Garden- 2420 Tramway Road, Sanford, NC
Cost: $5 (walk-up is cash or check ONLY)- divisions will be available!
End your week with some "Dirt Therapy" in the Pollinator Haven Garden! This afternoon session is all about preparation and observation. As the Garden begins to stir, we’ll be focusing on two essential late-winter tasks: scouting for life and multiplying our plants.
In this session, we will:- Scout for Overwintering Pollinators: Join us as we look for "hidden" residents in the garden. We’ll examine leaf litter and hollow stems to see who is still napping and who is starting to wake up.
- Perennial Division Workshop: Late February is the perfect time to divide many of our favorite perennials. Learn the "how and when" of splitting plants to improve their health and—best of all—get more plants for free!
- Garden Maintenance: We’ll do some light tidying to prepare our beds for the big spring push.
- Gardening Gloves (if you have them!): You’ll be getting your hands in the soil!
- Hand Tools: If you have a favorite trowel or garden spade, feel free to bring it (please label your tools). We also have plenty!
- Proper Footwear: The garden may be damp, so sturdy, waterproof boots are recommended.
Register Here: https://go.ncsu.edu/leecogardendirttherapy
Ages: 6+ (Children must be accompanied by an adult).
Parking: Please park in the side lot and meet us at the Garden Shed.
In the event of rain, this session will be rescheduled. Registered participants will be notified via email.
Come for the plants, stay for the peace of mind. Whether you are an experienced gardener or just want to learn the basics, all are welcome! Children 6+ years old are welcome and are FREE!
