Pond Weed Identification and Management Workshop
Aquatic weeds can quickly become a problem in farm ponds, recreational ponds, and other water bodies. Unmanaged vegetation can interfere with fishing, livestock watering, irrigation, and overall pond health. Correctly identifying aquatic weeds is the first step toward selecting an effective management strategy and avoiding costly treatment mistakes.
Join N.C. Cooperative Extension for the Pond Weed Identification and Management Workshop. This educational program will help participants identify common aquatic weeds and algae, understand the factors that contribute to weed problems, and explore management options available for ponds and other aquatic systems.
Participants will learn how to distinguish between beneficial and problematic aquatic vegetation, evaluate management goals, and select appropriate control measures. The workshop will also cover herbicide selection, application considerations, and best management practices for maintaining healthy ponds.
This program is designed for pond owners, farmers, landowners, lake and pond managers, homeowner association representatives, grounds managers, and anyone interested in improving the health and usability of their ponds. While pesticide applicators can earn continuing education credit by attending, the workshop is intended to provide valuable information for anyone responsible for managing aquatic vegetation.
Topics will include:
• Identification of common aquatic weeds and algae
• Understanding aquatic ecosystems and vegetation
• Evaluating pond weed management options
• Aquatic herbicide selection and use
• Integrated approaches to aquatic weed management
• Preventing and reducing future weed problems
Pesticide Credit: Pesticide applicators attending the workshop will receive 2 hours of N, O, D, and X pesticide credit.
Online Attendance: Participants attending online for pesticide credit must keep their camera on and remain present for the entire program. Additional attendance verification requirements may apply.
Registration: Advance registration is required. Visit our event page to register for either the in-person or online option.
