A group of kids hold bottles to the camera. What is summer without summer camp? 4-H Adventure Summer Day Camp was an adventure for Chatham County Youth ages 5-12. The daily activities were packed with the tradiTwo girls hold small turtles.tional camp activities of reciting the 4H pledge, songs, arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, and swimming along with coordinated STEM themed day activities. Each day promoted an opportunity to learn, grow, and have fun! The week’s activities began with learning about the library and theme related books,  a two day Nature Theme, led by the EMGV, in which youth experienced educational mini lessons and activities as they related to pollinators (origami beetles & flapping butterflies) , soil & insects (sifting of soil & identifying insects using a microscope) , leaf morphology (identifying leaf patterns and tree association & creating clay leaf imprints) , terrarium building (using recycled plastic coke bottles), and turtle education (painted rock turtles )  Recycling of plastics (creating wind chimes with recycled wipe containers) and saving marine life, farm animal day :calf, sheep, & rabbits education ( pom-pom sheep, hand print googly eyed chickens), and first responders (Pittsboro Police & Chatham County Sheriff Department, Silk Hope Volunteer Fire Department, and First Health Emergency Responders). Through participating in our day camp youth reunited with old friends, created new ones, and were left with dozens of lifetime memories. We are looking forward to next year’s Summer Adventure Day Camp where we will “Make the Best Better”.
